How Billing Works

This is the starting point for billing in WiLine Edge Cloud (WEC). It explains how charges are calculated and what you pay for, then points you to every other topic in this section — monitoring usage, analyzing costs, paying invoices, managing payment methods, and redeeming credits.

How WEC pricing works

Pay-as-you-go
Only pay for the compute and storage you provision — no upfront commitment and no minimum spend.
Per-second billing
Usage is measured by the second, never rounded up to the hour, so you pay for exactly the time your resources run.
No hidden fees
No charges for data egress or API requests. The cost of your workload is the cost of the resources it uses.

Currency

All pricing, invoices, and account credit in WEC are denominated in U.S. dollars (USD) — this is the only billing currency.

International payments

If you pay with a card issued outside the United States, your bank or card issuer converts the USD charge to your local currency at their exchange rate, and may add a foreign-transaction fee. These conversions and fees are set by your bank, not by WiLine, so the amount in your local currency can differ slightly from the USD total on your invoice.

What you are billed for

Charges accrue from the resources you provision:

Compute
Virtual machines and instances. Each running instance shows its accrued cost in the portal (for example, Current Compute Charges).
Storage
Volumes attached to your instances, billed by usage.
Networking
Usage-based resources such as Elastic IPs. See the Elastic IP guide for how allocated addresses are charged.
$0.06/GB·mo
Snapshots & backups
Point-in-time copies billed by size; scheduled backups cost a percentage of the instance (weekly 15%, daily 25%).
note

Dollar amounts shown throughout the billing documentation are illustrative examples from the portal, not quoted prices. For current published rates by offering, see the WiLine Edge Cloud pricing page.

Stopped instances

Stopping an instance reduces its cost but does not eliminate it.

  • Compute (CPU & memory) — not charged. While an instance is stopped, you are not billed for its CPU and memory; those resources are released.
  • Storage — still charged. Attached NVMe volumes continue to be billed while the instance is stopped, because your data stays provisioned.
  • Associated IPs — still charged. Any public/Elastic IP that remains associated with the instance keeps incurring its usage charge.

In other words, a stopped instance stops paying for compute but keeps paying for the storage and IPs it still holds. To stop all charges for a workload, also delete its volumes and release any associated IP addresses.
